How to create Amazon A+ Content for a book

Plan, design, submit, and review Amazon A+ Content for a book with a practical module, copy, image, alt-text, and quality checklist.

By Breakthrough PublishingPublished

Create Amazon A+ Content by deciding what a reader still needs to understand after seeing the cover and description, then building a short sequence of clear modules around that gap. Use accurate copy, rights-cleared images, readable text, and useful alt text. Submit through KDP's A+ Content Manager and check the approved result on every linked book page.

What is A+ Content supposed to do?

A+ Content adds visual and structured information to a product detail page. For a book, it can explain the reader, outcome, method, interior experience, or relationship to other books more clearly than a long block of promotional copy.

It should not repeat the cover, subtitle, and description in five different designs. Give each module one job.

Possible module jobReader question it answers
Reader and problem“Is this written for someone like me?”
Outcomes and scope“What will I be able to understand or do?”
Method or framework“How does the book organize the subject?”
Interior preview“What kind of reading or exercises should I expect?”
Comparison or series“Which related book is the right one for me?”

Not every book needs every job. A novel series, workbook, cookbook, and business guide will require different evidence.

1. Review the listing before designing anything

Read the title, subtitle, cover, description, sample, and visible metadata as one package. Write down what is already clear and what remains uncertain.

If the description already explains the framework well, use A+ space to show its parts visually or preview the experience. If the cover is atmospheric but the audience is unclear, lead with the reader and premise. If the book belongs to a series, help the shopper understand order or differences without making unsupported claims.

Fix inaccurate metadata before trying to compensate with graphics. KDP's metadata guidelines require consistency, including between the submitted title information and the cover.

2. Write a one-page A+ brief

Define:

  1. The primary reader.
  2. The main question the A+ section must answer.
  3. Three to five supported messages from the book.
  4. The visual tone already established by the cover.
  5. The assets you own or are licensed to use.
  6. The marketplaces and book formats or ASINs involved.
  7. Claims or topics that must not appear.

Every message should be traceable to the manuscript or accurate book information. Do not invent awards, reviews, rankings, endorsements, reader outcomes, or credentials.

3. Choose a module sequence

Think of the section as a short argument rather than a gallery. An invented five-module plan for a practical guide might be:

  1. Opening banner: identify the reader's situation.
  2. Three-part benefit module: show the book's three genuine learning outcomes.
  3. Framework module: explain the sequence used in the book.
  4. Interior module: show representative, legible pages or features.
  5. Comparison module: distinguish related books by reader or scope.

This is an example structure, not a claim that five modules are required or best for every listing.

4. Draft the copy before the images

Write a headline and one concise message for each module. Make the copy understandable without design. Then remove repeated promises.

Prefer concrete descriptions:

  • “Plan the week, build a shopping list, and prepare components in order”

over vague claims:

  • “Transform your life with the ultimate system.”

The first line tells a reader what is inside. The second is hype and creates an expectation the book may not support.

Keep important words readable at the size shoppers will see. Do not rely on dense text embedded inside images when live text or simpler design can communicate the point more accessibly.

5. Build or source the visual assets

Use images you created or have the right to use. Keep a record of licenses and source files. Match the cover's typography, colors, and visual world without making every module identical.

For interior previews, use pages that honestly represent the finished edition. Do not show features that were cut from the final manuscript. If a page contains small body text, consider highlighting its structure rather than expecting shoppers to read an entire page inside a module.

Breakthrough Tools adds two AI A+ Content credits each month on Plus and Elite; Starter has no included A+ credits. Each run uses one credit; unused credits roll over and two more are added on the renewal day. Generated assets still require review for accuracy, rights, and Amazon's rules.

6. Write useful alt text

Alt text should convey the image's relevant information, not stuff keywords or repeat decorative details. If an image is a three-step framework, describe the three steps. If it is purely decorative, avoid pretending it contains evidence.

Check that a reader can still understand the core message if an image is unavailable. This usually leads to better copy and a cleaner structure.

7. Check the current Amazon rules

KDP's official A+ Content help explains the current workflow: access A+ Content Manager from Marketing, select a marketplace, create the content, review it against the guidelines, apply ASINs, and submit it. Use the live documentation for module specifications and content restrictions because they may change.

Before submission, verify:

  • every statement is accurate and current;
  • title and cover details match the book;
  • images and fonts are appropriately licensed;
  • there are no invented testimonials or results;
  • the content does not make approval or sales promises;
  • spelling, punctuation, and capitalization are consistent;
  • alt text describes the useful content;
  • the design remains legible on smaller screens.

8. Create and submit the project in KDP

Follow the current KDP interface and documentation:

  1. Open the Marketing area in KDP.
  2. Choose the relevant marketplace for A+ Content.
  3. Open A+ Content Manager and start a project.
  4. Add the selected modules.
  5. Enter approved copy, images, and alt text.
  6. Preview the content carefully.
  7. Apply the correct ASINs.
  8. Submit for Amazon's review.

Do not assume acceptance. If Amazon requests changes, read the feedback, correct the underlying issue, and recheck the complete project before resubmitting.

9. Inspect the published result

After approval and publication, view every linked product page you can access. Confirm that the modules appear in the intended order, the correct books are attached, text remains readable, images crop acceptably, and the content does not conflict with updated metadata.

Keep the project brief, copy, source assets, license records, alt text, submission date, and linked ASINs together. When the cover or book details change, include A+ Content in the update checklist.

Should you make it yourself or hire a designer?

Create it yourself when the message is simple, you have suitable assets, and you can judge layout and accessibility. Hire help when the section needs a coherent visual system, custom assets, complex comparisons, or significant image preparation.

Breakthrough's separately ordered A+ Content design service is listed at $149 one time plus applicable tax; check the service page for current availability. Its published scope includes five custom modules, stock-photo sourcing, a banner, comparison chart, alt text, source files, and revisions. This service is separate from the software plans, and neither route promises Amazon approval or a sales increase.

Judge the finished section by a modest standard: does it help an appropriate reader understand the book accurately and decide whether it fits? Clear, specific evidence serves that purpose better than louder claims.

Questions people ask

Where do authors create A+ Content in KDP?

KDP's official process uses the Marketing page and A+ Content Manager. Select the marketplace, create content, apply the relevant ASINs, and submit it for review.

What should book A+ Content include?

Use a small set of modules that clarify the reader, benefits, approach, interior experience, author context where appropriate, or related books without repeating the description.

Does Amazon automatically approve A+ Content?

No. Content is reviewed, and you should check the current A+ guidelines before submission.

Will A+ Content increase book sales?

There is no guaranteed sales result. Treat it as a way to explain the book more clearly and judge it against the accuracy and usefulness of the listing.

Can Breakthrough create A+ Content?

Plus and Elite add two AI A+ Content credits each month; unused credits roll over. A separate $149 design service offers five custom modules and related assets; check its availability.
